Small Round Jute Basket - Natural or Grey
A lovely, truly useful basket. Hand woven by a fair trade artisan cooperative in Bangladesh, where the natural jute plant grows. A rain-fed crop that doesn't need much in the way of fertilizer or pesticides - the warm, wet climate during the monsoon season providing ideal growing conditions. It takes between 4-6 months for the plants to reach around 12 feet when they are harvested, the stems tied together and soaked in water to soften before being stripped of their fibers which are then woven.
Strong, robust and functional, yet very stylish and contemporary. Use for all that "stuff" that would otherwise be lying around the house (toys, blankets, school books, toilet rolls, recycling, towels, kindling, newspapers, magazines, knitting - you name it, this is a great place to store it!).
(Also available in a rectangular version - grey or natural.)
